Literally hazardous to your health. Horrible mgmt

I moved into the "Saddlebrook at Tates Creek" apartments about 3 months ago. (This was recently renamed from the Greenhouse when taken over by new owners/management.) I lived there for only 3 months (just now moved out). Except for slum housing while in college this is by far the worse place I've lived. It may be that our specific unit was worse than others (we were in one of the townhouse units in the back), but our experience there does not bode well for anyone living in this community. Our problems are too numerous to list on this page, but here are the highlights... The unit should never have been rented in the condition it was in. It was completely misrepresented over the phone and email (I lived in CA before this and could not see it in person... BIG mistake!). The quality of the materials and workmanship (paint, carpet, all flooring, etc.) were very poor. Okay, I can live with that for a while. But the toilets didn't work when we moved in!!! They "fixed" them 3 different times... with me having to call after each one because it wasn't really fixed... until the last time when it worked well enough (until we moved out!) but still wasn t very usable. The maintenance guys were pretty nice, but pretty useless. But THE problem in this unit was the mold. Mold that you could see due to leaks, but that the management and maintenance did not bother to fix and in fact said it wasn't a problem. We had leaks in the apartment which also ruined some of our property. And let me tell you that that the management was not only unhelpful, but they blatantly lied and accused us of causing the problem, when it was CLEARLY from water damage and existing mold in the apartment. I called mold experts and the department of health, who came out to the apartment. Unfortunately, I called the dept. of health after we moved out, so they did not really get a chance to see the unit. Long-story-short (too late!)... do not rent here at all! Even if you have to pay a hundred or two more a month... it will be worth it. If you have no other choice... make sure you really check out the unit in person, search for mold and water damage under the bathroom and kitchen cabinets, and make sure you have renters insurance! Always a must... but you might actually make use of it at this place! |
