Apartment Review
No problem until we moved out
Review Date: 12/13/2009
Reviewer: Anonymous

We lived at Hamburg Farms for a year. We had minor problems when we lived there. A neighbor complained that our heating unit was too loud, but Hamburg sent out repair guys that said nothing was wrong with it. That really wasn't our problem - just annoying neighbors which we couldn't help. But the major problem came when we moved out. Even though our lease was only for a year, we didn't notify the office we were moving out (we figured, hey, the lease is for a year. We will move out after a year!). When it was the middle of our last month, we were bombarded with calls asking if we were moving out, to which we replied - yes. They then proceeded to tell us we would be charged an extra month's rent because we had not notified them sooner. B.S., I called. They sent us a copy of our lease, which did state we had to notify them. Problem is, we never got a copy of our lease. They also said they had been trying to contact us for the last month and had sent notices to our front door. We never received a single call or notice until they told us we would have to pay another month. Well, we had just bought a house and had to start making mortgage payments and could not afford to pay a whole month's rent on top of that. So the kind and gracious (I'm saying this with sarcasm) people of the Villages at Hamburg Farms decreased it to half a month's rent (still over $500) and let us set up a payment plan. So basically, they robbed us of $500 and there was absolutely nothing we could do about it. It's really sad, too. We loved living there with our dog and because of this, we didn't recomment this place to any of our friends. So just be careful when you are moving out. Make sure you let them know in advance (say, 6 months in advance just to be sure) even if your lease ends on a certain date.
